Winnipeg Home + Garden Show is bursting with inspiration

Spring has finally sprung, and along with the promise of warmer weather comes the return of the annual Winnipeg Home + Garden Show.

The Home + Garden Show — now in its 49th year — runs from April 4-7 at the RBC Convention Centre, and shouldn’t be missed. In a nutshell, the show is a vibrant marketplace — a place where you can shop for home-related products and services, experience stunning displays to help inspire your next home project, connect with industry experts, and enjoy informative presentations from renowned local and international home professionals.

Whether you’re attending with a specific project in mind or just looking for some inspiration, local home professionals have you covered. With 200+ booths to explore and several unique feature displays to enjoy — such as “Ask a landscaper” and “Ask a renovator”, the Pop-up Market, Pick a Plant, Paradise Patio, or the Sidecar Bar, to name just a few — this is a valuable event for all Winnipeg homeowners.

As always, the show will feature appearances from some of the biggest names in the industry and plenty of local experts.

HGTV Canada’s ever-popular Bryan Baeumler is back, co-star, along with his wife Sarah, of the just-wrapped Island of Bryan. His latest TV endeavour is called Bryan’s All In, which will premier later this year. If you want to watch this husband and wife dynamic duo working together, you can still catch Rock the Block, now in its 5th season, for an all-stars redemption. Fingers crossed that the Canadians take the win this time! Baeumler’s presentation is called “Taking the guesswork out of home ownership: How to get there, and build real value.” Don’t miss this informative talk, as  he is natural-born teacher, and with homeownership and how to achieve it at the top of everyone’s mind these days, you’re bound to learn something valuable.

Megan Golightly of Simplified Inc. will also be appearing on the mainstage. For 14 years she has been problem solving, organizing projects big and small, and working with families to see their homes and lives transformed. She holds a degree in Psychology, and on-going study in Neuroscience peaked her curiosity on how the brain works in relation to the spaces in our homes. She motivates, inspires and uncovers the psychology of organizing. You can find Simplified’s Instagram account full of tips, tricks, how-tos, before and afters and more! Her presentation topic is called “Strategic spaces: A pro organizers guide to renovation and new builds.”

Also taking the mainstage are local experts Sonja Mueller and Berni Harder of Superior Cabinets Winnipeg for an exciting panel discussion. Get answers to common cabinet and kitchen renovation questions, plus discover their top 3 planning mistakes.

Florence van Dijk, who transplanted from the lush green countryside of Ireland to our snowy city in 2013, has branched out with Florence Botanicals. She brings fresh and dried flower bunches to popups around the city, along with weddings and other events. Her mainstage topic is “Elegant Spring flower arrangements.”

Shauna Dobbie is the editor and publisher at Pegasus Publications Inc. which produces Canada’s Local Gardener magazine. Having recently moved to our city from Ontario, she’s learning how to garden all over again. Her presentation topic is “Ways to build a new garden.” You’re bound to learn many tips on how to grow plants in our harsh zone 3 environment.

John Klassen is the owner and principal designer at Inland Fine Furnishings over on Wall Street. His passion for interior design started when he was a youngster and is evident in the turn-of-the-century home he and his family are renovating. His store is full of pieces that are practical, well made and built to last. His presentation is called “True lasting design: How to create spaces built to last generations.” His philosophy is about taking an approach to design that is methodical, slow, sustainable, and lasting — definitely not the advice you’ll get from social media!

The hours for this year’s show are noon to 9 pm on Thursday and Friday, April 4-5, and 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm. Buy your tickets early and save $2! Tickets are good for any day and include access to watch all stage presenters.

Once again, the Winnipeg Regional Real Estate News offered free tickets to the show via their various socials, so congratulations if you were lucky enough to win. You don’t want to miss this year’s exciting show for tips, tricks and gardening inspiration just in time for spring.
