New condo development underway at site of former Transcona Town Hall

One hundred years after its founding, Transcona continues its development as a family-friendly neighbourhood.
Recently, the sod was turned on a new 72-unit condominium project on what was the former site of the Transcona Town Hall, Pandora Avenue West at Madeline Street (401 - 455 Pandora Avenue West).
The city of Winnipeg sold the site for the condo development to A&S Construction Limited. The proceeds of the sale are going toward Transcona Centennial Square.
“By completing this sale,” said Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz, “the city of Winnipeg is helping to transform an industrial yard into good-looking multi-family units.
“I expect these new units will attract families from all over the city and represents a significant investment being made in the community,” the mayor added.
Construction of the Park City Condominiums by A&S has already begun, and involves erecting 12 buildings with six units per building. At least, 18 units are slated for completion by January 2013 and more by March 2013.
The name of the condo project is a tribute to the motto, “the Park City,” which was originally adopted by a motion of Transcona city council in 1966. In 1972, Transcona was incorporated into the city of Winnipeg.
Each of the two condo unit design is named after a Transcona park. The Winona suites are 1,668 square feet and the Palma suites are 1,456 square feet. While both feature three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a multi-purpose loft, an upper floor terrace and a ground floor veranda, the Winona suites will have larger kitchen and family room areas.
According to the Park City Condominiums website, units are available for $249,900 and $279,000.
“I think people will really like the look both inside and out,” said Bill Thiessen, the lead REALTOR® for the project and a member of WinnipegREALTORS®. “It’s a complex that will merge well with its surroundings in this great area.”
Transcona’s centennial celebrations are ongoing. Transcona was incorporated as a town on April 6, 1912.
The community is holding a centennial party at the Canad Inn Club Regent Casino on October 12.
