The Winnipeg Regional Real Estate News held a contest for one lucky person to win tickets to the show, along with a private meet-and-greet with Baeumler in person. A natural-born teacher, the award-winning host and personality has been educating and entertaining viewers for over ten years on hit shows Bryan Inc., House of Bryan, Leave it to Bryan, Disaster DIY, Home to Win and now Island of Bryan. He is also an author and has written about avoiding common DIY mistakes and how to do it right.

We were lucky enough to catch up to Canada’s busiest number one expert on DIY prior to the show and ask him a few questions.

WRREN: What are new renovation trends you see in 2023?

Baeumler: People are sticking with open concepts generally, but we’re seeing more and more homeschool and home office private spaces being created. As we all continue to spend more time at home, we’re adapting our homes for that. We’re still seeing a trend towards putting money into creating more efficient homes as well, and in some cases, cutting back on cosmetics in order to do that.

WRREN: What is the top reno project a homeowner should consider when selling?

Baeumler: For me, adding real value by focusing on reducing the operating and long-term maintenance costs of your home is key, and adds the most value long-term because it’s like putting, or keeping money, in your pocket every month!

WRREN: What are the benefits of renovations from an investment perspective?

Baeumler: A lot of people are looking for updated, renovated spaces that are move-in ready. Not everyone wants to tackle the messy, stressful and expensive task of turning an old, tired property into their dream home — a lot of people want to get straight to the dream! Renovating your existing home is a great way to increase its value and attract more buyers.
