10 fun virtual activities to enjoy in Manitoba this week to take the edge off Covid fatigue

We may not be able to travel right now, but if we work together, we can get back to exploring our favourite spots in Manitoba soon. Remember to stay home if you’re sick, wash your hands, wear a mask, stay away from crowded places and practice physical distancing when you’re out in public.

1. Films at home with Cinematheque

Winnipeg Film Group’s Cinematheque has teamed up with a movie streaming service that lets you support your local art house when we are unable to go the theatre in person. Buy a virtual ticket to watch award-winning international films, acclaimed documentaries, and restored classics. Check out what titles Cinematheque at Home is offering!

Until November 19: Jazz on a Summer’s Day (1959) is regarded as one of the best jazz films ever made.

Unit November 19: Oliver Sacks: His Own Life (2019), a documentary that explores the life and work of the legendary neurologist and storyteller.

2. National presentation of Canada’s top jazz talent
Online/hosted on Treaty 1 territory

Until November 15. This virtual festival highlights the strength of musicians in the country and features them in a digital format for audiences to enjoy. With two performances each evening, the Canadian Online Jazz Festival will exhibit the full breadth and depth of Canada’s unique jazz tapestry with presentations from Coast to Coast, including Winnipeg.

3. Shop local online

There is a big need to support and buy local right now. Check out The
Locals app to shop virtually. This shop is a one–stop-shop where you can find local makers and entrepreneurs all in one place. Many shops are now offering delivery, shipping and curbside pickup: check out Valencia Boutique and Mad About Style Boutique. Local online only shops are also popping up! 4. Attend a virtual holiday craft show

5. Take the pledge

Manitoba’s restaurants have been hit hard by the pandemic, and Manitobans need to do what we can to support them. Take Travel Manitoba’s pledge and commit to ordering take-out, delivery or curbside pick-up once per week through the month of November. Explore the history of Winnipeg, the science of the night sky, the diversity of Manitoba’s plants and animals, or the stories of the fur trade, all from the comfort of your home.

8. Support your WSO
Online/hosted on Treaty 1 territory

November 14 at 7:30 p.m. Purchase a ticket to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra’s livestream concert. Celebrate the tradition of the legendary Boston Pops, with a delightful blend of light classics and popular hits from the past and present.

The concert will be available for viewing for approximately 72 hours after the livestream with your ticket purchase.

9. Help ArtsJunktion mb

November 13 from 7-9 pm. ArtsJunktion mb Inc. is a community-based, charitable organization committed to supporting the creative community and work to reduce landfill waste. Their annual FUNdraiser includes an online raffle, auction and 50/50 and Instagram live auction, with performances by @hellobegonia & @feathertalia!
