Tour downtown condos and attractions

Starting this weekend, Winnipeggers will have a chance to sample the urban lifestyle in a fun new way every Sunday in June from noon to 4 p.m.

The Downtown Living Open House, sponsored by the WinnipegREALTORS® Association, features six downtown condos plus attractions and amenities found in the city centre. The condos that will be visited include Waterfront Drive’s The Excelsior, The Strand and Sky Waterfront, as well as the Traveller’s Building/Butler Building at 283 Bannatyne Ave., Fairchild Lofts at 110 Princess St., and the Supreme Racquet Court Condos at 520 Portage Ave.

Attractions and amenities include The Forks, the Exchange District, the MTS Centre, the Bay Food Market and the YMCA-YWCA.

To visit all the condos and attractions, park  at The Forks and catch the free Downtown Living Open House shuttle bus.

Many Winnipeggers are discovering the conveniences and freedom of living downtown — urban dwellers enjoy less dependency on their cars and have many of their day-to-day needs met within a five- to 10-minute walk from their front door. The grocery store in the The Bay Downtown and the YMCA-YWCA’s fitness centre are easily accessible by foot or bus.

There are also many parks and green spaces downtown, such as Stephen Juba Park and the Assiniboine Riverwalk which are also popular jogging routes. In the winter, the indoor walkway system connects dozens of shops, restaurants and other services.

Living downtown means you’re at the hub of a lively arts and entertainment scene that includes theatre, cinemas, the MTS Centre, art galleries and many other nearby entertainment venues. Plus, you are within walking distance of the city’s richest collection of historical and architecturally intriguing buildings.

The free open house is hosted by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ and the CentreVenture Development Corporation. The event is also sponsored by the Winnipeg Free Press. For more information, visit the website www.downtownwinnipegbiz.com
